UU Singapore
members are a diverse group of people; local Singaporeans, permanent residents
(PR), expats and visitors of different nationalities, ethnicities, belief
systems and social backgrounds.
Put them together,
you have something similar to a salad or local Rojak.
Rojak is a local
salad popular in South East Asia and the term rojak is often used to describe a
multi racial or cultural environment.
Just like a salad
or a rojak, everyone in UU Singapore brings a unique touch to create a larger UU
Singapore fabric, a space where we celebrate diversity and an opportunity to
learn from different culture and belief systems.
Some members are
listed below to give you a flavor of UU Singapore.

Ben Bleicken

Ben is a lifelong Unitarian Universalist coming
from a family with generations of Unitarians and Universalists.
He is considered a "traditional Unitarian
Universalist" in that his faith is Judeo-Christian based. However,
as a Unitarian Universalist, Ben believes that religious authority
does not lie in any one book, institution or person and that reason
is a gift from God and, as such, personal interpretation should
replace creeds, dogmas, doctrines and other forms of fixed belief.
He feels that wisdom may come from the prophets,
religious traditions, philosophy, science, personal reflection,
nature and the arts. He also feels that Singapore, with its
wonderful mix of faiths, cultures and people, is the ideal place for
a Unitarian Universalist to live, learn and grow.

As a cultural relativist, he supports the idea of
diversity and cross cultural interaction.
He likes the idea that people of different
ethnicity, social, religious background can come together to
celebrate common shared values while respecting differences.
Any society that promotes such ideas generate
immerse social capital for all of its members.
